Sogema Technologies has signed a contract to upgrade the Integrated Tax Administration System (SIGTAS) for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda. The project, financed by the European Union, aims to modernize the revenue administration system of the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) of the Ministry of Finance.

A long-term partnership

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda is our fifth (5th) SIGTAS client to upgrade to the newest version of our revenue management software, SIGTAS 3.0, following the Republic of Mali, the Republic of Senegal, the Government of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, and the Government of the Virgin Islands. Sogema Technologies is proud to continue to support, evolve and extend its long-term partnership with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the European Union through the SIGTAS 3.0 solution, which will provide extensive benefits to both the IRD and the Government of Antigua and Barbuda taxpayers. This upgrade will help the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to increase the degree of voluntary compliance and lower the cost of conformity for both the Administration and the taxpayer.

The road to improved Tax Administration Compliance

The implementation of the upgraded and proven SIGTAS 3.0 solution will allow the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to increase its capacity to collect taxes and drive government revenues in a transparent and accountable manner, thereby supporting public sector investments in critical areas such as education, health, and infrastructure development. In line with Sogema Technologies mission, the latest version of SIGTAS will contribute to Antigua and Barbuda’s progress towards modernization and will improve the overall socio-economic well-being of the country and its citizens. The SIGTAS 3.0 solution will introduce new features allowing the IRD to move to the next level of Tax Administration compliance, which will include the ability for taxpayers to submit their tax returns and make payment online. These new processes are expected to support the tax system and provide the foundation for the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to execute and automate its economic policy, while increasing collection rates and raising overall revenues for the country. The new system will also seek to optimize decision-making and improve collaboration between the IRD and external entities to help prevent tax evasion.

Advanced Taxpayer Services

The implementation of the new solution will also allow the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to offer an array of online services to the taxpayers to facilitate an easier taxpayer compliance such as fully moving its systems to a digital platform and allowing taxpayers to register online and remotely (e-Registration), submit their tax returns online (e-Filing), and pay for their taxes online (e-Payment).
